This stunning waterfront property in Annapolis underwent a complete entrance and front foundation transformation during a concurrent home renovation. While retaining key hardscape features such as the driveway, low stone wall, and steps, our mission was to deliver a dramatic visual upgrade. We aimed to provide picturesque views from the home and main entrance, maintain privacy from the street above, and resolve significant drainage challenges—all while complementing the property’s natural charm.
Striking New Entrance Features – Our skilled masons crafted elegant stone piers that seamlessly match the existing dry-stack garden walls. The piers are topped with 3-inch gauged flagstone and accented by architecturally detailed light fixtures, creating a welcoming and refined street presence.
Lush, Layered Plantings – A broad sweep of Nepeta, paired with Oakleaf Hydrangea, Abelia, and Osmanthus, gives the impression of a mature garden. These generous plantings disguise their relatively recent installation with a natural, established look.

Screening for Privacy – Colorful Nepeta and Dwarf Nandina soften the expansive driveway, offering partial screening from the street while enhancing curb appeal.
Preserving a Key Focal Point – The mature Japanese Bloodgood maple was carefully protected during the installation of extensive drainage systems, ensuring this standout tree remains a focal point for years to come.
Artful Stonework – Viewed from the front doors, the new stone piers perfectly replicate the design of the existing garden walls. Anchoring the walkway, simple yet bold planters filled with Fern and Creeping Jenny add a touch of greenery to the space.
Seamless Wall Extensions – A closer look reveals how our masons flawlessly extended the existing stone wall, adapting its height to the property’s changing grade. By maintaining the thin stack style and incorporating vertical accent stones, the transition is undetectable.
Custom Carpentry – Our carpenters built a beautifully detailed stick-built gate, framed by a new stone pier and the extended garden wall, adding both functionality and charm to the design.
Effective Drainage Solutions – At the foot of the extended stone wall, a catch basin is subtly covered with river jack stones, while a nearby dry creek bed provides efficient drainage, blending utility with aesthetic appeal.
Refreshed Breezeway – The renovated breezeway features architecturally detailed posts and colorful plantings, creating a cozy, private path leading to the garage.
Colorful Plantings – Nepeta and Japanese Maple add early summer color.
Garden Hideaways – Daylilies and hydrangeas soften the entrance to the rear yard, offering a lush and inviting transition from the covered breezeway.
